A huge hit for Montreal’s Segal Centre in the spring of 2018 – as The Angel and The Sparrow – Piaf/Dietrich became a runaway sensation in Toronto this past winter. Remounted at the CAA Theatre by Mirvish Productions the show was extended by public demand – three times!!
The show is the story of friendship between two of the most iconic women of the last hundred years. Joe Matheson played a half-dozen men in the lives of these two divas. He also plays a little guitar and sings a bit here and there.
There has been substantial interest in the show and we were looking at another production this summer. The Covid-19 situation has pulled the plug on that but we are sure the show will rise again once theatre-going is an option again.
(with Louise Pitre as Edith Piaf, Jayne Lewis as Marlene Dietrich, Rejean Cournoyer as Noel Coward and others, Louise Camilleri as Momon and others)
Joe Matheson and Louise Pitre were in the midst of their run at Montreal’s Segal Centre when the decision was made to close. It was a tough decision to make but it was in the best interest of everyone involved, especially the theatre’s patrons.
The Times – an intimate wander through the songs of change made famous in the 60s – was a sold-out hit for Toronto’s Harold Green Jewish Theatre in the fall of 2017.
A fresh look – funny at times, perhaps a little darker than you expect – at some of the ‘music of change’ that happened in the 1960s – music and lyrics that are still as relevant today as they ever were. Maybe even more so.
